I gave book a 5 as I liked the variety and plan on incorporating other recipes in her books to make my favorites for vegetarian and vegan recipes. I am trying to be more flexible and not use as much meat and chicken.. The flavors of dishes should be able to substitute recipes where meat or chicken primary recipe to vegan or vegetarian additives . Author added few changes from other 500 recipes so this made it more interesting..

This is a very insightful and satisfying book about the miracle season of the Mets. Stanley Cohen paints a vivid picture against the backdrop of the wider state of affairs of that era, from baseball to national events. I came away with an understanding of how baseball operated in a more innocent time and how it was about to irrevocably change. And I learned a lot of details about my favorite Mets players from my youth. My only wish was that the book included more artwork, including color photos.

This is the perfect book for a Mets fan suffering through a horrible season. The author perfectly mixes game recaps with interviews. I liked that he didn't dwell on the sociological significance of the season or related world events, instead emphasizing how the Mets won the Series. Even if you think that you know everything about the '69 Mets, you will learn something. I loved this book.

Any book about the Metsies will hold my attention,but his present day interviews with the players and coaches make this a very special book.

I've read a few books about my favorite baseball team without ever discovering one I'd call my clear favorite. But there is no doubt this is the happiest, easiest book I know about featuring the New York Mets.Established in 1962, the Mets had losing records in each of their first seven seasons, mired at the bottom of the National League for all but two of them. But a change was slowly building in the organization, with a firm but flexibly minded manager having taken stock of his young and talented team. They would be called "The Miracle Mets," though one theme of this book is the players, or at least most of them, don't see it as a "miracle.""Our winning the pennant and the Series was not as complicated as people sometimes make it out to be," explained pitcher Tom Seaver, who won the Cy Young Award in 1969. "We were the best team in baseball, and that's why we won.""There was nothing miraculous about it," shortstop Bud Harrelson said. "We went out each day with the idea of winning, and most of the time we won."Cohen's 1988 account of the Mets' 1969 season includes original interviews with 23 of the 25 players who were on the Mets' postseason roster. When he first researched the book in 1986, all of them were not only still alive, but two of them, Seaver and pitcher Nolan Ryan, were still on player rosters. Another, Harrelson, was a coach on what would become in October 1986 the only other Mets team to win it all.The book is well-organized that way, with Cohen alternating between an account of the season as it unfolded and interviews with the Mets who share their thoughts about how it happened and what they were feeling in often unguarded and charming ways. The team had great pitching, solid fielding, and hitting that wasn't spectacular but very timely.The only voice really missing here is manager Gil Hodges, who died in 1972. Cohen's interviews make clear the players saw him as the difference maker, especially during the regular season when the Mets came from behind to catch the early-surging Chicago Cubs. The Cubs' manager, Leo Durocher, pressed too much and his team wore down from the strain. Hodges knew how to push the right buttons at the right times without taxing his players so much."I think Gil would have won with the Cubs in '69," claimed catcher J. C. Martin, who played for both managers after being traded to the Cubs in 1970. "I think it was the manager that made the difference."The book reads a bit thin in places, especially when it gets to the post-season. Cohen says he spent a lot of time reading the New York Times day-by-day accounts of the games; I wish he had given more attention to what the city tabloids were saying, especially The Daily News, which was the heart of sports journalism in New York City then.But if you want to get beyond the shots of sliding outfield catches and tickertape parades to find out what the Mets were all about that summer, this is a book worth reading. If you are a Mets fan like me, the story gets better when you read it more than once.

I didn't mind the content of the book, if you READ it. The audible book is absolutely terrible. The narrator, Ian Eugene Ryan, doesn't know how to pronounce the names of most of the players, many of whom are in the Hall of Fame.. His pronunciation of some basic English words is like a fifth grader. I don't know how the author or the publisher can allow this to happen. Doesn't anyone edit these books? It really made a great story a very bad listen.

I gave this book 3 stars for 3 reasons. First the lack of maps. Although the writer continuously refers to rivers, towns and cities, mountains and mountain passes, borders and etc in kindle edition, there are only three general maps lacking the mentioned details so in order to follow the narrating you have to google them. Second the repeating of the same arguments for the same event in different chapters. The writer had the difficult task to write about events, that no ancient sources exist and if they do exist they are fragmental at best. So he had to use logical arguments in order to establish the sequence of events and also the reason that anything happened . But then he repeated them again and again, sometimes in different chapters as for example about the foundation of Seleukia upon Tigris by Seleukos the I. Third there is a mixture of ancient and modern geography which sometimes gets confusing. For example he chose to use the modern terms, Iran and Iranian people, but for Syria the ancient boundaries. He also chose to use the ancient distinction Macedonian - Greek but I am no sure that this distinction existed outside the Greek peninsula.

This is an excellent account of the rise of Seleukos I and the early Seleukid Empire. It features good if not great maps, is well footnoted, has a thorough bibliography and an error free index (based on my spot checking). Grainger has previously written several books dealing with the history of this period including "Alexander the Great Failure, the Collapse of the Macedonian Empire" as well as several books on the Seleukid Empire. The remainder of his narrative which ends with the death of Seleukos III holds to this standard.He is particularly good at integrating a critical close reading of the usual literary sources with material such as Babylonian scribal records and other epigraphical material as well as numismatic analysis including a particularly fruitful use of recent coin hoard findings. There are also weaknesses in his account. One is the perhaps understandable tendency to over estimate the ability of Seleukos I particularly at the expense of Antigonos Monophthalamos.In addition to this tendency to inflate Seleukos's significance in periods where he clearly played a secondary role one must also note the occasional unacceptable misstatement. I will cite one example: The egregious claim that "several royal marriages linking the Antigonid and Seleukid families rendered Macedon almost a part of the Seleukid kingdom". This is simply untrue and is especially misleading given that the Antigonid kingdom was more stable and far more coherent a polity than the larger and wealthier Seleukid "State".However while keeping these caveats in mind I recommend this book to anyone with a serious interest in the Hellenistic Period.

A very good historical read that tells you a lot about why Alexnader's empire fell and how Seleucos' empire arose. It is fascinating how Selecus rose from nowhere to take over most of the Empire. The book also gives you the historical background of the Galatians and the rise of the Parthians and Graeco-Bactrians.For someone who is loves history, this is a must-read. For those who don't, this is quite an interesting piece as well and is well written

I have waited for a long time for this book by John D. Grainger. I now have the whole trilogy by this author about the Seleucid Empire. I will read all that in the winter time. I am very pleased by the book, the trilogy, and also by the seller of this book who managed to send me the copy pretty quickly.

Rating this was problematic, in the same way that writing a history of the Seleucid Empire is problematic -- the sources are spotty, which leads to a book that is overly detailed about some points and uncomfortably vague about others.

The rise of the Seleukid Empire was for me a first introduction to the empire. It delivered on all the historical information I needed. Explained the creation and the fall of the empire and explained the leaders and the battle that were fought. I was impressed by its easy flow and straight to the point writing that made it easy to understand and remember what you read.Great read

I wish there were more detailed maps. He mentions many cities that just are mapped. Also some pronouncement guides would be great.The content is well presented. He doesn't fill in gaps without warnings and evidence to support his ideas. I'm looking forward to continuing this series.

Worth a read, unfortunately the book ended earlier than I thought. A good read over a period of which I had little knowledge. I found the book reasonably easy to read and enjoyable. Only complaint would the scarcity of maps, but this is a complaint of most books in ancient history.

I somehow missed the fact that this book has limited scope and was surprised when it ended just as I was expecting to get into the details of insulin resistance and diet. I can't knock it down for not including subjects I mistakenly thought would be covered -- that's on me -- but I have to say that nothing in the author's exhortation to meditation seemed on point for my particular questions. I recognize that others might find this short treatise somewhat helpful or even greatly beneficial. If so, I am glad. Perhaps one of the author's other books is the one I should have read.

Firstly, this is not a book. It is a rather short essay. Because the author has some credentials and there were some good reviews I purchased without looking too hard. This is a simplistic introduction to a style of meditation. As many have offered before, take some time every day to relax in a quiet space without distractions and simply 'let everything be as it it is'. You now know the content of this essay. If you want to delve deeper search for a real book. I probably wouldn't have bothered to review if this was just $1.... but its ridiculous spending as much on this as some of the fantastic Kindle books I have purchased.

My son loves this book, says it is loaded with information and easy to use. We are going to read it through and take the practice test before he takes the GED. He is one of those kids that school does not work for, he is highly intelligent and does not learn in a traditional setting. This book is excellent to learn, practice, take practice exams and feel ready and able to take the test with confidence.

This was for my son, and while he has used many other "...for dummies" books, this one was just a more difficult subject matter..he's decided he's stupid, which I'm not buying of course. My dislike though comes from the fact that the print inside is like 'fine print', which may be why the book is smaller in size to the other GED books. So it's nothing against Amazon or the Dummie people, it just wasn't for us.

I liked what it said online.

Tried to get grandkids to use it know luck

Its just practice tests.

Now if I can get my grandson to read it and take the test, I will be delighted.

I have had other Que books in the past for Office 2000 and such, they were much more detailed and included many more samples and had complete lists of the available functions.
