The folk music era of the 1960's is what influenced me to learn to play guitar. I had not played for many years, and recently started playing again.I needed some music to get me going again and to expand my repertoire, and this book is just what I was looking for. Most of the songs are one to a page. The chord diagrams are shown at the top of the page, and just the names of the chords are shown above each measure. This is fairly common for the guitar music with which I am familiar. Only the melody is shown, and only the treble clef is shown, which is all most guitarists need. If you can play the major, minor and major seventh chords in the first position, you will be able to play the majority of the songs in this book. Suggested strum and picking patterns are also given for each song, in case you need a starting place.

Excellent teaching tool for beginners. Especially like that it’s in standard notation and has chord symbols above.Thanks for not adding tab! It’s hard to find a good source book that’s not in tab.

So fun. I couldn't think of a folk song from my childhood (in the 60s) that wasn't there. I first picked up a guitar in 1966, and this book was like a combination of my first two folk books and more besides.

For any beginner and anyone interested in early folk music, this book is a lot of fun. Most all of the songs are easy, in the key of C, and show the chords. One song per page, so easy to see.

I am trying to teach myself how to read music and play guitar at the same time. This book is perfect for a newbie like myself. It is just challenging enough but not so difficult that I want to stop trying.

This is a great basic guitar book for those who enjoy American folk standards.
