I was recommended this book by a friend because I was having some troubles with a difficult coworker, and this book was concise, easy to follow and very, very helpful! The organization of this book is excellent. I love how Mr. Smith walks you through the various types of difficult people you will meet in your work and then gives you clear and practical advice on how to deal with these people. From the Hardcore Bully to the Whiner to the Credit Grabber and Pessimist, if there's a difficult person at your job, this book will help you identify what type of difficult person you are dealing with and give you concrete steps you can take, today, to handle the situation.For me, the person I was having trouble with was a classic "Credit Grabber." What this book allowed me to do was take a step back from my own emotional involvement in the situation, and through a very helpful 30 minute NLP exercise, I was able to figure out what I could to do keep this coworker from taking credit for my work. When I tried the steps I learned from this book, I was able to keep a level head and treat this person as a member of my team (as opposed to an eternal thorn in my side) and while this person will never be the favorite part of my day, I now have the tools I need to keep my work life in balance.This is a concise, powerful read that is sure to help you out if you are also dealing with a difficult person at work. Highly recommended!
There's a few people at work that I wish would read this book. That's probably won't happen but I'm glad I found a lot of good tips from it.-I enjoyed the chapter on the Jedi mind trick which I will definitely try to use.-Also the question section I thought offered some good information.The information is condensed which is good for readers like me who don't like to thumb through pages and pages of theory. If you're looking for just some practical advice on improving your communication skills, this is a good buy.Good price and condensed better than other books that I've read on the topic.

Certainly we all contribute to our relationships and the responses we engender.Note I said "protocols;" this book is far more than helpful tips. The author gives specifics relative to the type of "difficult" people we encounter on a daily basis, and how to deal with them.He gives protocols for stress relief to help alleviate the "inroads" caused by difficult people and words of wisdom, noting that, self-growth is a life long process and difficult people may be pointing to areas in our own character that may need to be addressed.It's a two way street, dealing rationally with annoying people in the workplace and in life in general, and dealing with ourselves. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to explore humanity as well as survive being part of the human condition.
Having been in Corporate America managing people for 20 years, I have experience in dealing with all kinds of personalities in the workplace. Understanding those different types of personalities is key to having a positive working relationship with those around you. You don't have to like them, but you do at least have to understand what category they fit into. If everyone would read this book there would be a lot less friction in the office and a lot more understanding. Not only that - you will become much more respected for the cool manner in which you handle yourself in situations. Pick up this book and learn from this author - the different personality types, different communication techniques and even a great little section on how to relieve stress while dealing with a difficult situation at work.
I really needed this book because I cannot stand dealing with difficult people because I get along with everyone. I read this entire book and there was a great deal of information on how to deal with difficult people. I was impressed with the chapters about simple stress relief tips and principles for effective communication. I would recommend this book to anyone trying to learn how to making life easier both at home and at work with dealing with stressful situations with unbalanced people. Thumbs up to the author!

Seriously this guide, although short, really tells you what you need to know about these difficult people and how to deal with them.Listed are the the different types of difficult personalities - you're bound to recognize at least one of them - and useful tactics can you can employ to deal with each of them. Also included are some stress relief tips you can use on the job when you are feeling overwhelmed.Colin Smith is an NLP expert and this guide is based on his many years experience and training.
