About the Author
Kallie George is the author of the Magical Animal Adoption Agency series. She works as an author and speaker in Vancouver, Canada, and she holds a master's in children's literature from the University of British Columbia. In addition to writing books for young readers, she leads workshops for aspiring writers. She happened across the Heartwood Hotel on a hike with her husband and wishes she was a mouse like Mona so she could stay there, too. We had a late dinner last night because my kids begged me to keep reading this book (ages 9-3yrs). If you are looking for a book where you don't have to modify the characters behavior or vocabulary every other page, add this to your list of titles. We started book 2 this morning and are already about half way through it. I was so pleased to find a book where the main characters weren't being rude to adults or calling everyone "stupid" or "dumb", and the descriptive language made it easy to envision the Heartwood Hotel. I'm pre-ordering book #3!
Very sweet book. My 8-year-old daughter loved it. Well written,using challenging vocabulary. Teaches valuable lessons on honesty and facing your fears. Honestly, one of the best children's chapter books we've read in a long time.
This series of books is so well written. It holds your attention with its whimsical characters and adventures. It takes place at the Heartwood Hotel and follows the adventures of a little mouse who finds her way to the "hotel" in a large tree just for forest dwellers. She finds employment at the hotel as a maid and as she gets to know the other employees and guests at the hotel, her life is enriched and she finds her true home at the Heartwood. You too will come to love all of the characters in this series of books as you journey along with them through their adventures in the forest and at the Heartwood Hotel. I bought this for my granddaughter but wanted to investigate them before passing them on. I think I have enjoyed the stories as much as her. Excellent gift for the reader in your life who is entering her first "chapter books" or as a bedtime book to read to the child in your life who loves the outdoors. They will identify with the creatures whose lives and relationships unfold in the story.
This great book was wholesome, fun, kind-hearted, and packed with cute illustrations. I did it as a read-aloud with my 5.5-year-old and my almost-four-year-old really loved it too. We're almost done with the second book now (there are four, at least at the time of this review) and we definitely plan to check out the third as well.
What a great book! My 7 year old loved it. A very sweet tale about friendship, adventure, overcoming obstacles and trust.

We’re sharing this book as the first in our long distance granddaughter and grandmother book club.Can’t wait to start Book 2 and find out what little Mona the mouse and the staff and guests of Heartwood Hotel will be up to next!
I purchased this book for my kids on a recommendation from another mom. This book did not disappoint. A sweet story, relatable characters, well-written! We look forward to reading more from this author and series!
