In this beautiful and personal book, Lacey recounts a deeply painful time in her past. Through experiences and lessons learned, she shares how God's love can heal our hearts and all of our earthly relationships.Lacey's been such a beam of light in my life, since I was sixteen when Flyleaf helped me through periods of depression. Now I'm almost 22, finally healthy, and living in the Light of Christ. I wondered if I would get as much out of this book as I did with the Reason, but it's filled with encouragement and wisdom for wherever you may be in life.For Lacey fans and curious Passerbys alike, this is a great read for all who want to know that true love exists.

Honestly did not want to start reading this book for a while and kept putting it off because I did not want to think about the subject after my last break up. but buckled up and read it anyway. well written and it Identified a lot of things I needed to work on within myself and views I had that were causing me the pain I had recently experienced. since then I have bought copies of this book for 4 women I know because I think it has important messages in it for them. Even as a guy, this book is a good read.

I enjoy Lacey Sturm's story. What a testimony. Its great for young adults or adults alike. She talks about struggles with drugs, relationships, depression, and suicide and how she overcame them all with the help of Jesus Christ. An encouraging read.

I read this book in one day.Lacey Sturm writes beautifully and with such vulnerability. The book is wonderfully encouraging and eye-opening.Lacey you are so beautiful in your obedience to the Lord, it makes me want to be closer to him as well.

My daughter could not stop reading this book. It helped her with whats she's going through. That no matter how hard your situation is, by God's grace you will get out of it and will overcome all those struggles.

Lacey is awesome, through her music and written word she inspires all generations to be better than they are and to keep the younger generation from ending it all like she almost did, no matter how difficult life may become. Yes, life is cruel and yes life isn't fair but the alternative is forever. I know from experiences with deep depression. I wanted to take my own life. Granted this one woman's story on how she found true love, not only with her inner self but with God and the love of her life, Josh Sturm and of course her children. I thank God every day that Lacey is still with us. She does have a reason to be alive.

I cannot wait to read her book, i used to love flyleaf and got so sad when she left the band and I didn't know why.. she's just so genuine and I love the fact that she is open about exactly what happened in her life and things people never want to speak of.

This book is raw, honest, and intimate. Lacey has made mistakes and explains how she has used the influences God has put in her life to turn things around for the good. This book is a "must read" for anybody thinking about getting into a relationship, or somebody who is already in one and wants to make it better. She discusses love, trust, and hope, and how with letting God take the lead, we can experience all three.

I can’t remember the last time I was as excited by a book as I am about The Crucifixion. That is the contention of Fleming Rutledge, noted Episcopal priest and preacher, who has put a lifetime of study into a scholarly yet engaging book, brimming with inspiration and insight. In her own words from the Preface: “What I have attempted—as a pastor and a preacher—is a series of theological reflections on Scripture that I hope will add up to a coherent account of the death of Jesus Christ for the church.”She has written with three audiences in mind: serious students of theology, pastors who hope to convey Gospel truth to their congregations, and laypeople who wish to gain a better grasp of the Christian faith. As we see the magnitude of the death of Christ, we are drawn into the heart of God. Rutledge insists: “Christians do not simply look to the cross of Christ with prayerful reverence. We are set in motion by its power, energized by it, upheld by it, guaranteed by it, secured by it.”Rutledge writes from a conservative perspective, rejecting both liberal views and the growing evangelical tendency to focus primarily on positive, uplifting themes. The church needs to return to the sober reality of the vicarious suffering of our Savior. Rutledge contends that the sinful brokenness of humankind made a secular, degrading, horrific death of our Savior necessary. The crucifixion thus is unique in history.The massive work could have easily been published in two volumes. The first part is a detailed explanation of the death of Christ—the plan, primacy and godlessness of the cross, the gravity of sin and the justice of God. The second part deals with cross motifs in Scripture: the Passover, blood sacrifice, the descent into Hell, ransom and redemption.At first glance this 660-page volume may seem lofty and daunting, yet I found myself looking forward to every opportunity to get back into it. There is hardly a wasted word. Even the footnotes are engaging; it is often tempting to skip footnotes, yet here they are as substantive and striking as the text. I would go so far as to call The Crucifixion a “page-turner”, with amens and alleluias on nearly every page.-Rev. Dr. Robert Leroe

I highly recommend this book. As someone with a theology degree but who does not particularly enjoy reading systematic theology (ahem, Barth) I found this very accessible, thought provoking, and enjoyable. It it also a rare 'academic' book in that it truly embraces both the best of academic theology and preaching/pastoral experience and thus offers an integrated perspective that can be hard to find. I also like the way she navigates between so-called progressive and orthodox perspectives and is not afraid to ask the more confronting questions that both liberals and conservatives avoid.This would be a great book for preachers looking to nuance their theological preaching, a theological book discussion group, or someone looking to update their theological reading if it has been a while since seminary.

This book is phenomenal. There have been very few books that I have come across where from cover to cover it has been rejuvenating, refreshing, and powerful. Despite being one of the most elusive doctrines, Fleming Rutledge has produced a masterpiece on atonement. Formerly, Rutledge has worked on this manuscript for 18 years, but really it is the fruit of a life-long wrestle with the cross of the Crucified Lord. And though some might withhold enthusiasm about a non-academic (strictly speaking, a non-PhD holder — though one might need reminding that the West’s theological giants, such as Augustine, Aquinas, Luther, Calvin, and even our 20th century Karl Barth, never held doctorates) writing a hefty (600+ pages) theological treatise, caveat lector: this is a substantial and monumental treatise.What follows is a sorrowfully short sketch; the present writer, instead, hopes the present reader (you) will just buy and read it.After a long list of endorsement from significant theologians of our time, Rutledge begins. The book is divided into two unequal halves: (1) socio-historical and literary analysis of the event of Jesus’ crucifixion and (2) biblical motifs of the crucifixion. Rutledge draws from the climatic well of apocalyptic interpretation, specifically thanking Ernest Käsemann. In short, apocalyptic interpretation argues that starting during Babylonian exile (or some time later), there arose an insistence that the God of Israel is “breaking into” the world in new “revelatory” (apocalyptic) ways that expose and destroy the cosmic forces of Evil and Sin — the apex being the crucifixion — and, thus, execute and establish justice through the dikaiosyne theou (“righteousness of God”). The foremost apocalyptic forerunner was none other than Apostle Paul. This apocalyptic framework fits well with Christus Victor. However, unlike Gustav Aulén, Rutledge incorporates in kaleidoscopic fashion a surplus of other motifs — not theories.I conclude with her own words:All the manifold biblical images with their richness, complexity, and depth come together as one to say this: the righteousness of God is revealed in the cross of Christ. The “precious blood” of the Son of God is the perfect sacrifice for sin; the ransom is paid to deliver the captives; the gates of hell are stormed; the Red Sea is crossed and the enemy drowned; God’s judgment has been executed upon Sin; the disobedience of Adam is recapitulated in the obedience of Christ; a new creation is coming into being; those who put their trust in Christ are incorporated into his life; the kingdoms of “the present evil age” are passing away and the promised kingdom of God is manifest not in triumphalist crusades, but in the cruciform witness of the church. From within “Adam’s” (our) human flesh, the incarnate Son fought with and was victorious over Satan — on our behalf and in our place. Only this power, this transcendent victory won by the Son of God, is capable of reorienting the kosmos to its rightful Creator.
