This charming book has given us a short punch list of places to visit. Hopefully the cats will be in residence and I'll be able to add pictures of my new love with a cat to the album now containing a number of similar pictures in eight different countries and seven different US states.Our list:Shakespeare and Company -- Robert, book lover, and both of us cat lovers have much to appeal to us here. The lovely pictures bring back memories of visiting this store and an eternal "Kitty" going back at least 40 years.Le Café Zephyre and Swiffer -- My companion had a tiny room near the Birthday Cake, and we always walk up that hill -- it will be a new café to explore for us both.Helypse and stringed instruments -- a wonderful Maine Coon cat just now approaching 25 pounds.Mickey, a mixed breed who died at 22, but was a fixture at a brasserie that my companion knows very well, L'Select.And, a favorite story -- a restaurant owner who gave up a Michelin because they would have to fire their cat. This is a terrific book if you love Paris, if you love cats, if you like wonderfully written pieces about lovely Parisian haunts, and terrific photos of cats in all their glory strutting their stuff in their Parisian "homes" -- or all of the above. The prose is beautifully written, the photos are delightful, and everything about this book cries "read me and enjoy me". I've bought several for friends, all of whom have be delighted to receive it. A great gift for yourself or someone else.

I love this book for two reasons: I love Paris, and I love cats. I think the city and the animal have something in common: they are both beautiful, with a well-defined dignity, sometimes aloof, amusing, affectionate when they know you love them, and endlessly fascinating. The photos were beautiful. I haven't read it completely through yet, but I know I'm going to love every word!

An in-depth look at the biography of each kitty interviewed and some background on the owners as well. So much more that a pile of cute pictures. The "person"-ality of each cat shines through.

We took this book to Paris and actually met some of these cats! SO much fun, like a treasure hunt in Paris with furry treasure!

I just got a copy of this book and found myself transported...it's pure pleasure to stroll through these pages learning about places I'd love to visit, the history of famous and little-known Parisian haunts, and of course, the cats! The photos are beautiful and the essays are lovely and filled with fascinating tidbits about the locations as well as current and past denizens, human and feline. My cat- and Paris-loving friends will definitely be getting copies as gifts.

We are using this book for a ladies bible study and it is amazing. It brings such deep insight into the Great Shepherd! Each insight is so important for us "city-dwellers" to understand. Keller is truly a caring and gifted shepherd, while also being one of the flock who loves our dear Lord. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to know God better, deeper, and truer.

This is written by a real shepherd. I learned so much about why God compares our relationship to that of a shepherd and his sheep. There are so many aspects of sheep that we don't know about unless we live with them. All the things he talks about describes our behavior towards God, and God's love and protection towards us.One small example is the fact that sheep are completely defenseless. They literally have no means of defending themselves, except running. Therefore, they are completely dependent on the shepherd, and when he is not around, they feel nervous and cannot grow healthily.It is an easy and engrossing read. Highly recommend.

Wow! Great book! Very insightful and thought provoking book examining the similarities between Jesus, our Good Shepherd, and we the sheep of His pasture. I learned a lot about sheep and had to chuckle at some of the funnier parallels between sheep and believers. Also cringed a bit over some of the not-so-flattering similarities! This my 4th purchase of this book, as I've the other 3 away!

This is the best book. If you are looking for a Bible study for Psalm 23, look no further. This is awesome. Phillip Keller was a real shepherd, and he thoroughly explains some of the things about sheep that explains the 23rd Psalm in so much more depth. Being that I'm not a shepherd, I didn't totally understand some of the reasoning behind the 23rd Psalm. But after reading some of the explanations of sheep and the things that they do, it brings newer meaning and insight to the 23rd Psalm. This is an older version of the book. The newer versions that are on sale now are only excerpts from the book. This is the actual book itself. Wish he would re-publish this one in its entirety so that more people could study this. This was definitely worth finding a used copy of to study. I have enjoyed it so very much.

As an experienced shepherd, the author transports us into the role and mind of a loving shepherd to understand why David chose the words he did and how they relate to his sheep and how they parallel the love of our Great Shepherd, Jesus. I cannot say enough about this book, but if you want an in-depth understanding of Psalm 23, I guarantee the insight from a shepherd's perspective in this book will never leave you, or forsake you.

The perspective of Psalm 23 is brought forward so beautifully through the eyes of the author who was a former sheep farmer. Never before have I had such a detailed understanding of what God is saying to His people and there is really no way to fully grasp the meaning of this Scripture unless you know what is entailed taking care of sheep as their shepherd. The author has assigned a chapter to each verse and gives a very insightful lesson of his perspective as the role of a shepherd.This book has changed my life and my understanding concerning the role of the pastor and his congregation. I read to a group of residents at a local nursing home each weekday and recently took a train trip across country and a couple of the residents took care of the reading to the group while I was away. A visitor shared this book with the group, which they were well into when I returned. We read through the book twice, my husband read through it twice, and we bought four new books to share with others. I'm so glad to have found this beautiful little book.Do yourself a favor and buy a new hardcover. The mass production paperback is very small print and harder to read. Enjoy!

I have just finished Dara's book on Super Satellite Strategy. Let me preface this review by stating I have been grinding satellites as my main focus for 8 months, where I currently sit #1 on the Party Poker PPL leaderboard. I wouldn't consider myself a specialist, there are several people who are much better and experienced than myself, but after months of tedious ICM/FGS calculations, I feel like I had a strong handle on proper strategy prior to reading the bookMy reason for buying this book was simple. Outside of Tom Hall, Dara is widely considered the best in the format. I have the utmost respect for both of them. The thing about satellites is that they are so different from any other form of poker that sometimes the entire lens through which you view poker is shattered into pieces. You can not look at satellites through that same lens. As you gain more experience in satellites through work with software (I recommend icmizer2 and monkersolver), you start to develop a lot of theories you might consider batshit crazy. It makes you question every thing you do. My entire strategy behind satellites has been a sort of "brute force" approach where I simply run thousands of simulations of different game states and ask myself WHY I think the results come out the way they do. This takes countless hours and probably isn't the most efficient way to approach thingsWhat Dara's book has done is to confirm some of theories I had made myself. The affirmation alone was worth way more than the $10 I paid.For those of you with no experience, what you can expect is a solid theoretical foundation to playing satellites backed by hard math. It is simple to follow, but will take practice to implement "Gorilla Maths" in your own game. There is no substitute for doing the work yourself, but Dara has shortened your workload by covering the most common spots you will encounter in a variety of satellite situations. In my opinion the book is of great benefit to a player of any skill level who is looking to play satellites. In the first 30 minutes of reading, I guarantee you will pick up something that will increase your future expectation enough to cover the cost of the book 10 fold.-Marty "TJXOLOSFAN1" Mathis

I highly recommend. I'm a long time recreational player but have read numerous strategy books over the years and enrolled on a few online training courses. This satellite specific strategy book was revelationary to me and was a wealth of new information and concepts. It introduced some very important (and easy) calculations such as 'Chance of Cashing' and 'Average Cash Stack' that from now on will completely change my Satellite strategy. The authors have gone to great efforts using the latest Solver technology but have presented it in an easily understood manner. It is an absolute steal at the current price and is a must read for any poker player who plays satellite tournaments.

With satellites being one of the most profitable tournaments to play, it was somewhat surprising that this book hadn't been written earlier. Poker Satellite Strategy opened my eyes to the many counter-intuitive mistakes I commonly make when playing satellites. Now armed with the ability to calculate my chance of cashing, I can better judge the equity I need to make certain plays especially in the end game portion of the tournament, where one small mistake can ruin the chances of success. My only hesitancy in recommending this book is purely selfish, knowing that the information is so good that satellites will become much more difficult.

It's no exaggeration to call Dara O'Kearney the world's foremost authority on poker satellite strategy, and this book lays out everything he knows. Correct play in satellites can be EXTREMELY counter-intuitive (folding Aces pre-flop, anyone?), but Dara provides easy methods for quickly determining when to take risks and when to avoid them. If you have any interest in playing satellites, this is mandatory reading.

The book is a great introduction to all aspects of satellite play and provides a good base for becoming profitable in these games. I particularly found the early game section very beneficial coming from a cash background I never really thought about the early game ICM aspect. The common scenario section at the end is another great addition and I can see myself coming back to read it again as these spots come up over and over if you grind satellites frequently.

I've always considered myself a pretty good satellite player due to my decade long experience with the format, but even I learned a lot from reading this book. Thanks to the information in these pages, I always expect to be one of the best players in the field. If you want to learn how to play with the same level of confidence, then you should definitely get this book.

Written in a friendly and fun yet professional tone, How to Polish Your Manuscript in Ten Days is brimming with solid writing advice supported by super helpful examples. The sections that resonated most with me were Overwriting (so guilty of that), and Formatting Your Manuscript (who doesn’t like to save time?! And you'll LOL at the chapter's subheading). The author includes a handy bonus section at the end, listing both craft and grammar resources. While sharing stellar writing advice, Anne Victory motivates, challenges, and encourages. An informative and valuable read you’ll refer to again and again. Highly recommended!

I titled this review, A Sharp Pencil because when your pencil is sharp, your lines are straight. Anne drew a straight line to the answers that were missing for me. No side shadows or blurry edges to entertain me. I'd given up on writing, or at least publishing and now I'm back in the saddle ready to ride. Other books were great, but something about Anne's book hit the heart for me.I'd highly recommend this book.

I’ve written several books and read numerous books on writing. I didn’t think there was anything ‘new’ out there. This little, information-packed gem proved me wrong and had me oohing and aaahing all over the place.Anne Victory’s 10 Lessons were a study in clear, succinct, utterly intelligible writing. It hit the perfect spot between casual tone and precise description. I wish this had been available years ago. It would have cut so many writing failures from my journey.I know the title talks about polishing a manuscript, but what she teaches about the elements of good writing is fundamental for every author. This book gets my highest recommendation.I received an Advanced Copy of this book and this is my honest review.

It is what it says on the tin--ten steps to take to polish a fiction manuscript. Some steps might be simple for some writers, but in my experience as an editor, these are the common mistakes that many writers make. Each area is clearly and simply explained. I wouldn't actually recommend that anyone publish a book that hasn't been edited, but the better shape your book is in when an editor gets it, the better job they can do. The problem areas in this book are ones that, ideally, an author would be able to take care of on their own, leaving the specialized fine-tuning to an editor.

Offers a clear, concise explanation on what to look for when self-editing your novel. Covers everything from dialogue to avoiding the infodump. Written with wit and very easy to read. A must buy for every author!

Wow! If you ever wanted to know how easy it is to self-edit a book then this is THE guide to get! In just ten easy steps Anne shows you how to do it. Personally for me the best sections were on tenses, repeating words and dialogue tags! Definitely recommend it!
