Sons of Blackbird Mountain was a fantastic story and one of my favorite books last year,so I have been counting the days until the second book in this series was released.Joanne Bischof has done it again! Daughters of Northern Shores was so breathtakingly powerfulI felt completely undone by books end. Bischof has melded the backstory of Blackbird Mountaininto the current lives of the Norgaard family, and moved it forward through all Haakon's sea journeys bringing it to an epic conclusion between the battles of darkness and light, good and evil. The story is laced with such raw emotion throughout I went from holding my breath to choking up with tears at the poignancy of it all. Bischof could not be a more talented storyteller, but her ability to bring it all together in a touching and satisfying epilogue is truly award worthy.Daughters of Northern Shores was a captivating romantic historical and I applaud Joanne Bischoffor her exceptional story!I can't wait for her next book, Joanne Bischof is an automatic buy for me!
Joanne Bishof is one of those authors I await each of her new release. She did not disappoint in this sequel to Sons of Blackbird Mt. If you have not read, it is a must read to understanding the women characters; their love, forgivness, and God given strength take up center stage where the first book ended. The story beautifully wraps up the forgivness needed from turmoil & mending together of not only the three brothers but the other male chracters who become grafted in to this Norwegian family. The story kept me reading to discover how their lives intertwined and redemption blossomed from the turmoil & brokekness at the end of Blackbird Mt. I am a native California & moved to Virginia very near the story telling of these series, loved the vivid description of the Appalachian Mt. Brought to life the Blue Ridge Mts in my backyard!
Sons of Blackbird Mountain was one of my favorite novels I have read in years. I really loved this second installment, as well. I only wish we could have seen more of Thor and his interactions with Aven. Perhaps a third installment could delve into his relationship with his daughter, which is bound to be as sweet and endearing as his relationship with Aven. I just love this entire Nordic clan, though, and I sincerely hope to read more about them!
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The description of the characters were outstanding and you could see the countryside with the acres of orchards and smell the Apple blossoms in your mind Dr m the descriptions. A wonderful book.
Emotionally charging and deals with real life issues of addiction. I’ve found another author to add to my star list!
Fans of Joanne Bischof’s Sons of Blackbird Mountain will not be disappointed in the return visit to the Norgaard family farm in Daughters of Northern Shores. The first book in the 2-volume series left us with Thor and Aven married, the Sorrel family on the run, and Haakon, the youngest Norgaard brother, hopping a ship to destinations unknown. Don’t worry, there is much, much more of the story left to told, and as always, Bischof does it with beautiful prose that sets the scene and reveals the fears, sorrows, hopes, and dreams of her characters. This book is another winner!Bischof is an accomplished storyteller. Readers can almost smell and taste the world she creates. They certainly can see the vivid settings of ship and land, especially the Appalachian apple farm worked by the Norgaards. I loved the historical elements that spoke of authenticity and diligent research on the part of the author. Four years have passed between the two books and much has changed, but the author fills in the gaps so naturally that the reader gets caught up with the lives of favorite characters right away. And those characters . . . . I loved Aven and Thor from book 1, but I was immediately drawn to Haakon in Daughters of Northern Shores. His 4 years of travel, hard work, and contemplation do much to develop this prodigal son from selfish young man to one who is ready to ask forgiveness and face the consequences of his actions. Lost trust leads to lost relationships, and this novel highlights how much one person’s actions can affect others. But this is also a story of forgiveness and restoration.Daughters of Northern Shores is a wonderful conclusion to the series. I was sorry to leave the Norgaards when the final page was turned. Please be aware that you must read this series in order, otherwise you will miss out on the full reading pleasure. I promise you will not be sorry!Recommended.Audience: adults.(Thanks to Prism Book Tours for a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are mine alone.)
Be still my heart and let me take a few deep breaths! Wow! In her beautiful prose, masterful author Joanne Bischof has done it again—penned another powerfully haunting, emotive read set in rural Appalachia.Since this novel is the sequel to 'Sons of Blackbird Mountain', I must take care to avoid spoilers. Once again we are reunited with the lovely, compassionate Aven, who won the heart of tough, handsome Thor, a deaf mute with a heart of gold—a man who ends up fighting a battle much graver than his war with alcohol. Then there's the tormented brother, Haakon, whose once selfish choices continue to haunt Aven. Will he find redemption and love?...as both seem well beyond his grasp.A resplendent tale of tremendous courage in the face of danger and a love that knows no bounds, I highly recommend 'Daughters of Northern Shores' Book 2 in the Blackbird Mountain series. Although the author does a great job of recapping, I would encourage reading 'Sons of Blackbird Mountain' Book 1 first. It's too awesome to miss and I feel as though the characters wouldn't have been nearly as endearing to me had I not read the books in sequence!I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
